ABSTRAKrnParenting is a series of parents-children interaction to educate children to become individuals who have a personality expected by the parents. Parenting pattern can be influenced by the level of corresponding parents' education, environment and culture. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between parents’ education and the community support toward parenting pattern of the parents who have children with mental retardation at SLB (extraordinary school) of Wiradesa Pekalongan regency. The study design was descriptive correlative with cross sectional approach. The samples of this study were all parents who have children with mental retardation as many as 79 elementary schools with a total retrieval sampling technique in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instrumen data collection was a questionnaire. The Results indicated that there was no significant correlation between education level of parents and the parenting pattern of parents who have children with mental retardation in SLB (extraordinary school ) of Wiradesa Pekalongan regency with p value 0.475> 0.05 and there was a significant correlation between the community support and parenting pattern of the parents who have children with mental retardation at SLB (extraordinary school ) of Wiradesa Pekalongan regency with p value 0,000 <0,05. With OR value of 9.062, it means parents who get community support posses good nine times chances to apply good parenting pattern compared with parents who get less community support. The result of this study can be used as information material for any parents so that they can apply such, parenting pattern by giving children with mental retardastion, a chance to get along with their society, giving fair treatment, as well as accepting them as who they are in order that they can adjust to any of their abnormality.rn
